According to Dictionary.com magnanimous means generous in forgiving an insult or injury; free from petty resentfulness or vindictiveness; unspiteful; high-minded or noble. Magnanimous people are always happier than those who hold grudges or harbor hatred. Love and hate are opposites, therefore love being light, hate is darkness. Love is Godlike and hatred is Godless. Magnanimous people are Godlike. Magnanimous is an expression of grace.
In the Twelve Step programs loss of resentment or hatred requires magnanimity. Unhappy people have put themselves above, ahead or apart from God. Whether we are apart from God through arrogance, narcissism or disdain the effects are the same. We are either in God’s light or we are in darkness. God is a jealous God in that we are either focused on God or the world. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus said, ” No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
We must all strive to be magnanimous. We must practice God’s grace, unconditional love. When we are striving to honor God we must love. ISIS can take my life but they cannot take away my love and honor for my Christian roots and my Gnostic heritage. We should stand strong toward our practice of God’s grace in whatever religious or spiritual denomination we choose, but stand strong we must. If you want to know where you will find your magnanimity remember…
