I have had a few clients who were so loyal to something that they alienated themselves from what they needed to grow. Alienation according to Dictionary.com is the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which on should be involved. Alienation normally occurs from believing something we were taught even though it never really worked for the person who taught it to us. Our parents alienated us from who we are as they tried lovingly to guide us down a path they had been sold on.
I normally don’t surrender a belief until I have seen the folly in following its direction. I was brought up by a father who was 100% Swedish. He had already broken from most Swedish traditions. He was, although, saddled with many ideas that he never questioned through loyalty to certain factions of his belief system. Once I hit my bottom and was awarded a new life with new opportunities I have let go of all my loyalties. I can’t sail toward lands unknown, if I never untie myself from the dock.
Everything I have been taught has been necessary for segments of my life but I am not willing to alienate myself from my ultimate potential by staying unwittingly loyal to anything other than God. I tell my clients never wait at the airport for your ship to come in! I pray daily for intuition. As I was created in God’s image and likeness, I am blessed with both conscious and intuition. I must learn to follow my intuition if I am to learn to trust in it. I can afford to alienate myself from anything other than God, therefore I must be willing to start my day with a clean slate, remembering…
