Wisdom

Wisdom is a remarkable thing. Over millenniums it has acquired much more influence than knowledge. People with knowledge seem to move in concentric circles, avoiding change, while people with wisdom pioneer change. Knowledge is associated with schools, while wisdom is associated with life. People with much knowledge tend to be more arrogant, while people with much wisdom are more humble. "Knowing is not enough; we must apply.  Willing is not enough; we must do. ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)

People with knowledge believe what they are taught while people with wisdom just know. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," (John 8-32 of the KJV of the Bible). Knowledge is measured by certificates, while wisdom is measured by respect. Knowledge is valued, while wisdom is honored. Knowledge is constantly being changed by new experience, while wisdom is timeless and unchangeable.

Most knowledge we have, even from a scientific standpoint, is constantly under scrutiny. Wisdom on the other hand, has been protected through thousands of years of guardianship through sound bites or quotes. Knowledge is taught, while wisdom is sought Knowledge is learning what we know, while wisdom is learning something presently unknown.

Wisdom can be achieved in two primary ways. Wisdom can be learned as a result of knowledge having been tempered by action or experience. It can also come to someone as a result of spiritual connection or what we have come to know as intuition; "Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. ~ Albert Einstein (1879-1955) and imagination; "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." ~ Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

There are many notions about wisdom. Wisdom is often associated with age and I have probably met as many young people with wisdom as I have met wise old people. It is often said that people grow old and wise. As I grow old I continue to find much more old than wise. Old and wise are often associated with more years of experience. Not all experience is followed by wisdom; sometime experience is followed by pain and confusion. People going through their lives with a depth of awareness grow more wisdom than people with mere time. It is this fact of awareness that I live my life loud and ask others to remember...
